The basic concept is outlined here īut I just stuck the end in a chuck rather than messing with the nut on the splines.īronze may not be the best choice for bushing material (against a brass shaft) I used graphite-loaded bronze last time, and I plan to use Delrin next time (if there is a next time). The trick is to find a 3/8" 'chucking' reamer with a 5/16" shaft, so you can use the shaft as a pilot into the other bush. Rebushing them yourself isn't bad at all, if you use the "backwards reamer" approach. I also recommend changing the cork gland seals to modern O-rings. The stretched spring will make the choke hard to pull, and may keep it from returning fully when the knob is released. All too often, some DPO has stretched that spring, in a vain attempt to stop the lower gland from weeping. New springs don't come with the rebuilt kit, but are available separately. If you do them yourself, I recommend replacing the spring inside the jet housing. Joe is all about carbs and does a terrific job IMOīurlen over in the UK who manufactures and supplies all the SU parts also rebuilds but they are 300 BP per carb and take 8-10 weeks Įdited 1 time(s). Apple is more known for their hydraulic cylinder rebuilds. Last edit at 11:13 AM by Jacad.Īpple Hydraulics does them as well for $495 and claims a 5 day turn around time. Don't ask about the untimely demise of this oneħ6 TR7 Purchased new in 1976, Owned 1976-1979 Worst car I ever owned from a reliability point of view but when it drove it was terrific

If you are courageous and insist on doing the re-bush yourself you can also purchase a reamer Like Brian did ītw you can see the correct parts for the SU H6 manual choke here ĥ9 TR3A 0TS57675LO - "Loose Wheels" Frame off Restoration 1995 Owned 1994- presentħ6 TR6 CF54266U - "The Tweetster" Frame off Restoration 2012 Owned 2012 - presentħ7 MGB Owned 1993- about 2015 R.I.P. If you want to do most of the rebuild yourself but you need to re-bush (which must be done with precision equipment ) then send just the carb bodies out for new shafts and bushes for $150 and then buy a complete SU H6 Rebuild kit (minus the shafts and bushes) such as this one You still might need new floats if the ones installed are shot and perhaps new piston return springs.

with low port head and H6 carburetters - should purchase full engine rebuild kit part no.
